2012 ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run 2-25-12 10K Race, Downtown Houston, Texas
ConocoPhillips will host the 25th annual ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run on Feb. 25, 2012. For the past 25 years, the event has been Houston's only point-to-point 10K race and 5K fun run/walk. The Rodeo Run raises scholarship funds for Texas youth and kicks off the Houston Livestock Show and RodeoTM (HLSR) Parade in downtown Houston. Registration for the 2012 Rodeo Run opens on Nov. 15, 2011.
Since 1988, ConocoPhillips has donated all Rodeo Run entry fees to the HLSR Educational Fund, totaling $2.9 million to date. Through these donations, the Rodeo Run has helped make college dreams a reality for more than 200 qualified Texas high school students. Last year's event alone raised a record $360,000 for the Educational Fund, with nearly 13,000 participants. This year, at the 25th anniversary event, ConocoPhillips will cap registration at 15,000 runners and walkers and aims to raise a record amount of scholarship funds for Texas students.
Participants are encouraged to join the celebration on Feb. 25 and make their way through the streets of downtown Houston in the 10K race or 5K fun run/walk. Thousands of spectators will line the race course, cheering for the participants on their way to the finish line at Minute Maid Park. As part of the Rodeo Run tradition, this year's event will host costume contests, a Texas-size post-race party and other exciting promotions new to the 25th anniversary event. "We're sure that our 25th annual ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run will be one of the most memorable events in our history," said ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run Registration Director, Marshall Cohen. "Rodeo Run participants experience one of the greatest traditions in the city of Houston, while supporting Texas education. These two aspects together make the Rodeo Run an extraordinary event for the whole family. We are proud to celebrate a major milestone in the event's history and to support the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Educational Fund."
The 2012 events begin at 9:15 a.m. at the intersection of Texas Ave. and Smith St. and finish with a post-race party at Minute Maid Park. This year's post-race party will include live music, plenty of food, prize giveaways and fun for all ages. Online registration at www.ConocoPhillipsRodeoRun.com begins on Nov. 15. Registration is just $25 until Feb. 4 and $30 thereafter. To encourage online registration, no online credit card processing fee will apply for the 2012 event.
