We meet the next 10 Saturday mornings at 7am and Tuesday evenings at 7pm at McCullough to get ready for the 10 for Texas finish line on October 11. Over 50 runners ran on Sunday, strong work. In case you have not noticed, summer is back and in full force in Houston. It is hot and humid out there, even at 7 am. Remember to drink lots of fluids before, during AND after the run.

It's already June and time to renew your TWRC membership (or join for the first time!). Please join us for a social at a local Woodlands park on Sunday, June 29 at 3:00 pm. We will have appetizers, drinks, and a place for you to donate your old running shoes.
Another great turnout for the annual VillaSport run and free pass weekend. Big thanks to VillaSport for the use of their facility and everyone that showed up. It was a warm and humid one. Summer is here.

The Woodlands Running Club and VillaSport have worked out TWO free days for members of TWRC. Saturday and Sunday June 7th and 8th. The Sunday 7 am run will start and finish at VillaSport in the Woodlands. After the run, feel free to use the showers, pools or exercise equipment at VillaSport.
The Villa Café opens at 8:00 am so make plans to hang out for a bit. Can't make the Sunday run but want to check out VillaSport later in the day? No problem, just stop by VillaSport any time on Saturday June 8th or Sunday June 9th between 7:00 am to 8:00 pm and show a state issued ID and tell them you are a member of TWRC. They will check your name against the current membership roster. You will have to sign the standard wavier. Yes - You can bring the family as well. One more benefit of being a TWRC member! Hope to see you there.
Also, VillaSport has extended their 50% off promotion until June 15th so anyone from The Woodlands Running Club interested in joining VillaSport will be eligible for this discount when they are at the club this weekend.

THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH FOR VOLUNTEERING. You all did an amazing job today and I really appreciate it. Thank you all for your hard work and cheerleader skills. An event of this magnitude could not take place without each and every one of you. Several of you mentioned that you have the Ironman bug and wanted to know about the early sign up for next year based on your volunteering this year. The registration starts at 9 a.m. and last until 11 a.m. and will be at the Waterway Parking Lot where the expo and athlete check in was on Thurs and Friday. That is the parking lot across the street from Gooses Acres.
Please remember the Athlete Awards & Volunteer Appreciation Banquet on Sunday, May 18th from 12:30-1:30 pm at the Marriott Convention Center. You are all invited to attend. You will need to wear your volunteer shirt (or if it is dirty carry it in a Ziploc baggie) as your entry into the banquet!
If you want to come back as a volunteer for this same location next year you will want to sign up for Run Course Aid Station #7 next year due to the renumbering of the aid stations. Thank you all again for your hard work today.
Luke's is having a Boston Run this Wednesday. The run is leaving Luke's at 6:30pm. We are encouraging runners & walkers to wear Boston colors or Boston gear.

The TWRC Board has scheduled our General Membership Meeting to be held on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Rico's in Alden Bridge at 6:00 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to elect the Board for the new term. The slate is as follows:
To help educate and remind all runners to run safe, the RRCA is embarking on a yearlong, public-safety, awareness campaign starting with the launch of the Run Smart : Run Safe animated video developed by Space Chimp Media. This message is designed to remind both new and regular runners to be aware of their surroundings at all times and to never trust drivers on the road.
The RRCA’s goal is to get as many runners as possible, including youth, to view the message, enhance their personal safety efforts on the run, and to share the message with fellow runners. Clubs, training programs, and events are encouraged to embed this message in their websites, share it in newsletters, share with local media outlets, and more. Be sure to pass it on!
From The Woodlands Marathon Volunteer Coordination Team...
We are in need of about 50 volunteers for race setup at 4am tomorrow (3/1) morning. We are not sure how long it will take so we can't have anyone that's working the Water Stops or on the course. Others that have early morning shifts at the race site (Town Green Park) are welcome to help but will need to report to their other shifts on time. I put the end time at 6:00am but it may take longer.
This is a last minute addition and because its last minute we've decided to award bonus shifts to anyone that comes out to help. Anyone who comes to help out will receive 1.5 credits towards their group totals. This is a great chance to push your group over that donation level to get even more for your cause.
