TWRC and the Ironman Water Station #6, Saturday May 19th 2012, East Shore, The Woodlands Texas
Post-Race notes from Randy
I want to thank all of you again for all the hard work you did under very hot conditions. Perhaps one of the volunteers on the last shift summed it up quite well when they said, "I have not trained hard enough for this volunteer work". We in no way come close to what each of the athletes endured yesterday, but it was still a minimum of four hours in the heat and sun working for each of you. The awards ceremony Sunday was nice having the athletes and the Ironman staff recognize all the hard work that performed by all of the volunteers and the vital role that they play in the success of Ironman Texas.
I was hopeful that I could tell you that our aid station had won an award but unfortunately, we did not. There is always next year and I hope each of you managed to have some fun while volunteering Saturday.
Last but definitely not least, I want to thank my two co-captains, Kristin and Michael Collins. It has been such a relief this year having them to help me from the very beginning. There is a lot of effort that goes into finding and organizing volunteers and to designing and implementing a theme for the aid station. Kristin not only came up with the theme but also made the signs and got the great banners that we put on the truck and the signpost on the north side of the street. Michael helped me keep my sanity in so many ways as we started trying to find volunteers and going to the meeting with me. He also provided the prospective of what we needed to do from the viewpoint of a person who has competed 12 Ironmen events. As if that was not enough they were both there from 6:00 am until we finished the clean up last night filling in working any jobs that needed someone. Thank you both again for your support and hard work.
I will be back in contact with you all once there are any updates from Ironman about sign up for Ironman 2013 and when volunteer registration for 2013 opens up.
-Randy Bradley

IRONMAN TEXAS VOLUNTEER SIGNUP INFORMATION FOR TWRC MEMBERS
Okay everyone it is time again to sign up to volunteer at Run Aid Station #6 for the Ironman Texas event that takes place here in The Woodlands on Saturday May 19, 2012. Last year our water stop placed 3rd in the best aid station competition and this year we have a great theme planned that will be fun for the volunteers and runners alike. As a result of our volunteering last year the club received a donation of $1500.00 from Ironman that was put into our scholarship fund. This year if we can get more volunteers we should be able to hit that amount and possibly more.

2013 London Marathon
For TWRC members interested in participating in the 2013 London Marathon, please be advised of an alternative method of possibly gaining entry into the marathon without relying on the lottery system utilized by the London Marathon. Tony Allison and Don Cole (both participants of the TWRC squad traveling to the 2011 Berlin Marathon) have been researching means for guaranteed entry into the 2013 London Marathon and hope to interest other TWRC club members into joining them in putting together a TWRC delegation for the 2013 London Marathon.
