IRONMAN TEXAS VOLUNTEER SIGNUP INFORMATION FOR TWRC MEMBERS


Okay everyone it is time again to sign up to volunteer at Run Aid Station #6 for the Ironman Texas event that takes place here in The Woodlands on Saturday May 19, 2012. Last year our water stop placed 3rd in the best aid station competition and this year we have a great theme planned that will be fun for the volunteers and runners alike. As a result of our volunteering last year the club received a donation of $1500.00 from Ironman that was put into our scholarship fund. This year if we can get more volunteers we should be able to hit that amount and possibly more.

To accomplish this I have asked Ironman to allow ONLY TWRC volunteers to man Run Aid Station #6. This means that we will need to fill a total of 102 volunteer slots beginning at 10:00 AM and going to 11:45 PM. The breakdown per shift is 32 volunteers needed from 10:00 AM - 2:30 PM (SHIFT 1), 40 volunteers from 2:30 - 6:30 (SHIFT 2) and 30 volunteers from 6:30 - 11:45 (SHIFT3). However, I have several people that have already volunteered to work all 3 shifts so each of these people will get us credit for 3 people/volunteer slots.

In addition to being a great way to support these athletes and raising money for our scholarship fund it is really a lot of fun. I had my doubts last year since I had never ran an aid station let alone watched an Ironman, but it was one of the best volunteer experiences I have had. It is truly amazing to watch these athletes attempt to make it through to the finish line. You will see everything from the elite Ironmen to first timers that will be struggling and need support to get to the finish line.

So now - how do you sign up! Well it is going to be a multi-part process. Here is the process:
1. Determine what shift(s) you want to volunteer for. If you are volunteering for several shifts you will need to repeat the process for each shift.
a. SHIFT 1 - 10:00 AM - 2:30 PM
b. SHIFT 2 - 2:30 - 6:30 PM
c. SHIFT 3 - 6:30 - 11:45 PM
2. Go to the website http://www.doitsports.com/volunteer/join-protected-group.tcl?event_id=21.... There you will see a drop down that will allow you to choose the Group Name. Choose from TWRC SHIFT 1, TWRC SHIFT 2 OR TWRC SHIFT3. It will ask you for a password and you will need to enter TWRC2102. This is the same password for all 3 shifts. Once you enter the password it will take you to a screen where you enter your contact information etc. and accept the waiver. Again if you are volunteering for multiple shifts you will have to complete this process for each shift.
3. After you have completed the sign up on the volunteer site, PLEASE send me an e-mail with your name and shift(s) you have signed up for. For now I need this as the website is not notifying me of signups and I do not want to have too many volunteers for one shift and none for the others.
