Running Safety Alert
Houston Area Road Runner Association
All- Once again we are mourning the loss of a member of our running community. You may have heard of the tragic death of Lilia Vazquez last week, the victim of a hit-and-run by an automobile driving on Westpark near Fondren. I don’t need to elaborate on the details. This has been in the news. You can see the story here.
This Thursday, December 19, 6 p.m. there will be an opportunity to come together to show support for Lilia’s family. Please feel free to join. They are looking to the Houston running community for comfort. Meet at Memorial Park’s Lakeside Pavilion (at the Eastern Glades)
If you’re so inclined, you can support the Lilia’s family. A GoFundMe page is available to support them during this difficult time.
Editor’s note: It’s difficult (impossible) to send these emails with each tragedy. So many people touch our lives thru running it’s hard to see the impact each and every person makes on us. Best I can say is, continue to make friends and make an impact on your fellow runners. That’s what makes running fun, positive, healthy and I believe makes us better people. You don’t have to be fast to join a group and make someone feel special. We do that at any pace, any distance, and in so many ways.
Please, run safe.
